Borage is a great friend of the bee, it is common to see plantations near beehives because are good for each other. It is very attractive to other insects, so we shouldn't miss in any garden.
 
It is widely used as an ornamental plant because it flower quickly. Its leaves are used in salads and with the stalks in stews, soups, pasta, sauces, fried or in tea and lemonade. On the other hand, the flowers are used to decorate desserts, also can be frozen in ice cubes to give a romantic touch to drinks or for dressing salads or other dishes.

It is sown from March to May, although you can sow indoors in February and then transplanting. We have to find a sunny and deep place because it has a very long root. We sow the seeds superficially in moist soil, spacing them 10 cm directly in the garden or nursery. In the garden we going to plant after the time of frost. There are people who need to wear gloves when handling this plant, because the spiny hairs that it have, may slightly irritate sensitive skin.

It is good to plant borage with strawberries because stimulating mutual growth. Beside the tomato it will control the tomato worm. We can plant near the most fruits and the peas.

Borage is used both internally and externally. The essence of the flower is widely used in homeopathic remedies. It has diuretic, expectorant, emollient and anti-inflammatory properties.
Borage crushed leaves are soothing and healing for hits, insect bites, bruises, and rashes. Borage tea (made with leaves) is very useful for colds, fever, cough, bronchitis, gastritis and irritable bowel syndrome. From the seeds "Borage oil" is obtained, with have similar characteristics to the properties of evening primrose oil.
 
In the olden days it was believed that borage helped with melancholy, headache and sadness. The Greeks and Romans believed that the herb was a source of value and comfort. It is currently used in several cancer researchs because of its high concentration of linoleic acid.
