Its thick stems can be consumed separately because, by themselves are very tasty. We can sauté or bake them a few minutes and consume them when they are still crunchy.

Planting is on early spring, or when it have passed the most severe frosts. We sow 3 or 4 seeds separated about 30 cm, in rows in the ground at 1 cm deep. The soil musn't be too hot. We can put it anywhere in the garden as long as it is not in the deep shade, although it will be more productive in a sunny place.

It is a very easy to grow vegetable that it needn't maintenance, only a frequent watering especially all summer to avoid a bitter taste. It grows a lot even in poor soil. It survives in cool climates (can withstand some light frost), but in hot climates too. We will have a long production until the first heavy frost. It is resistant to most other diseases affecting plants.

Chard White Silver 2 can be consumed as baby leaf, or leave to mature completely. For the consumption of baby leaf, we may collect when the plants reach 10 cm (1 month after sowing, approximately), as these young leaves are more tender and perfect for use raw in salads. Another option is to let them grow more, then we pick them 50-60 days after sowing. In one way or another, to collect it we should be cut with a knife instead of pulling the leaves, to encourage them to grow more. We should always go collecting the outer leaves.

The chard leaves can be used as a substitute for spinach in any of their dishes. They are delicious cooked with a little butter, they are widely used to produce creams, as a garnish for meat, gratins, soups or stews, with vegetables or potatoes. We must always wash them well before eating, to remove traces of soil. Another option is to sauté in a pan, not oil, with water remains stuck in the leaves. It is recommended to consume in the same day they are collected, to store them we can be saved in the fridge three days, another option is washing, chopping and store in a plastic bag in the freezer, but this way they can lose some flavor.

The chard has a high content of vitamins A and C, minerals and fiber. Helps in diseases of the skin, respiratory and digestive problems, it increases the formation of antibodies and prevent vision problems. Fights infections, regulates cholesterol, improves liver function and has cleansing properties.

We must plant the spinach with lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, beans, peppers, tomatoes, carrots, onions and garlic. We must avoid being with beets, spinach, asparagus and leeks.
